International Conference on Community-Based Adaptation to Climate Change
CBA17 brings together a wide range of stakeholders working at all levels and scales to discuss how we can drive ambition for a climate-resilient future.
More Info
For the first time since 2019 CBA will be held in-person, with a focus on networking and reconnecting. It offers participants four days of discussion, debate, peer-to-peer ‘skill-shares’ and knowledge exchange.
GRP will be leading and co-hosting the following sessions. To join the discussions and attend in-person, register on the CBA17 website. The full agenda is available here.
The Dragons’ Den – develop and test a funding pitch
GRP is leading the Dragon’s Den sessions. The first session starts on Tuesday, 23 May at 10:35 (+07) and the final pitches will be presented on 25 May at 13:15 (+07).
Dragons’ Den is a learning program for would-be local climate leaders to establish their own projects with real local impact.
Participants work together in teams to collectively develop bids for investment and present these to a group of people with donor or investment experience. These experts (the ‘dragons’) assess the merits and viability of the pitches and provide feedback to the teams in a final, competition-style plenary session. (‘Dragons’ Den’ is a popular TV program in which the investors are the ‘dragons’.)
Ideas can be as diverse as an urban waste management project (the Dragons’ Den winner at CBA13), a community-based fund supporting women’s livelihoods (CBA14’s winner) or a project to generate biogas from waste (CBA15’s winner).
Measuring LLA: Challenges and Opportunities in tracking progress and accountability in community-led approaches to resilience and adaptation
22 May, 2023 at 10:35am – 12:15pm (+07)
Co-hosts: Institute for Climate and Sustainable Cities, University College London, GRP, Practical Action Nepal, International Institute for Environment and Development (IIED)
This session will explore how measurement and accountability processes support locally-led climate action, including how climate finance can support or constrain these processes. This session will consider questions of agency – who does the measuring, how to define the climate rationale for measurement and how these processes shape access to finance and implementation.
Let’s all listen: an intergenerational dialogue on youth leadership, evidence and partnerships
24 May, 2023 at 3:20pm – 5:00pm (+07)
Co-hosts: GRP, VSO, Green Africa Youth Organization (GAYO) Terra Legal Research Centre Uganda
Young people across urban and rural areas are leading the way in driving locally led adaptation through entrepreneurial, policy, and innovative initiatives. The session will explore how young people can connect and partner to overcome barriers in building successful youth-led climate actions.
It will answer the following questions:
- Movement building: what practical ways can young people mobilize teams, climate finance and innovate for climate finance?
- Using and producing evidence: what are the key barriers and opportunities that young people face in using and producing evidence?
- Partnerships: what would mutually synergistic intergenerational partnerships look like?
