Collaboration and Collective Impact
Collaboration and a collective impact approach help strengthen resilience activities and outcomes.
Mitigating the impact of shocks and stresses on well-being requires broad cross-sector coordination. Collective impact helps to define and unpack the underlying causes of recurrent crises — putting vulnerable people, households, and communities on a sustainable and resilient pathway out of poverty.
Coordination is fundamental to developing, managing, and evaluating effective resilience programming that leads to collective impact. Collaboration across USAID and with other donors, implementers, national governments, and other stakeholders enables humanitarian and development practitioners to make decisions about resilience based on data, evidence, and a wide range of experiences of what works.
Collective impact, as well as a collaborating, learning, and adapting (CLA) approach, recognizes the importance of systems thinking and flexibility. It helps diverse groups of stakeholders participating in resilience activities, planning, and measurement align their programs with the priorities of local actors and the appropriate stakeholders.
This approach calls for multiple organizations or entities from different sectors to adopt a common agenda and shared measurement for alignment and accountability. This includes bringing humanitarian and development funding streams together to build resilience to recurrent crises through sequencing, layering, and integrating.
