Honduras is one of Latin America’s most vulnerable countries and faces numerous challenges related to water and natural disasters. Flooding and landslides resulting from heavy rain routinely threaten poor urban residents of Tegucigalpa, and water supply is often insufficient during the dry season. Rural areas, which have high levels of poverty, suffer from pest invasions, droughts, and a high rate of deforestation that degrades watersheds and damages livelihoods. The Government of Honduras is working with international donors to identify the most vulnerable areas and implement targeted interventions in these areas to strengthen resilience to natural disasters and climate change.
